What Is Clean Beauty? Here's What It Means To Us

What Is Clean Beauty?

'Clean Beauty' is the absence of known-toxins, carcinogens and endocrine disruptors in make up, skincare and personal products. Clean beauty products focus on natural ingredients, often organic and vegan, with active botanicals and oils that produce high-performance, effective products that feed and nourish your skin. The results are almost always much better than those of traditional products, without the harmful side-effects, and very importantly a lot less damaging to the environment.

What To Look Out For When Shopping

When it comes to shopping for safer products it is clear that simpler is better. Choose products with fewer chemicals, avoid synthetic fragrances and use fewer products overall, especially on children or when pregnant. It means getting familiar with common ingredients, both good and bad, so that you can read product labels and then make an informed decision on whether to buy and use a product, or not. It's not as overwhelming as it sounds, and it can actually be enlightening and interesting to research ingredients, brands and studies on clean beauty. Once you get into it, there's no going back.

How We Are Championing Better Standards In Beauty

Here at The Clean Beauty Edit we specialise in luxurious clean beauty products for discerning customers who want to lead a less toxic and more sustainable existence. We very carefully select the brands we sell to ensure that their ethos aligns with ours and that they strive to create products without known toxins.

Our products are all cruelty free, and contain as many plant-based, organic, all-natural and vegan ingredients as possible so that they are kind to our skin, animals and the Earth. Sustainability is a hugely important factor in deciding on which brands to stock, and we look for brands who ethically and sustainably source their ingredients while also making their production methods and packaging as eco-friendly as possible.

Ingredients To Avoid

Below we have outlined some of the ingredients that we seek to avoid. We provide the ingredients of each product on individual product pages so that you can make an informed decision about purchasing and using individual products.

The list is long (and growing!). It includes:

GMO's, Parabens, BHA, BHT, Phthalates, Formaldehyde or Formaldehyde-Releasing Agents, 1,4-diosane, DEA, TEA and MEA, Sulfates (SLS, SLES), Triclosan, Tricloxarban, Retinoic Acid, Boric Acid, Hydroquinone, Lead, Nanoparticles, Triphenyl Phosphate, Mineral Oils, Ocybenzone, Octinoxate, Coal Tar, DMDM Hydantoin, Ethanolamine, Germaben, Plastic or Synthetic Microbeads, Nitrosamines, Paraffin, Toluene, Urea, Zirconium, Herbicides or Pesticide Residue, and Synthetic Fragrance, Preservatives and Dyes that are known to cause harm.

These are just some of the most common toxic ingredients found in traditional beauty products. We are always researching and keeping up to date with the latest knowledge in regards to potential hazards in our beauty routines to ensure that our selection of products is a clean as possible. Check out ewg.org for an invaluable database of research, articles and product checks to learn more about potential hazards in your food, beauty products and around the home.
