Our Guide To Non-Toxic Deodorants

This is one product where people feel uncertain about going clean. Why? Because no one wants to turn up at the office, or on a date, worrying about wet patches or, worse still, giving off an all-natural but pungent scent. In the past, those willing to test out the natural deodorants available often had to trial many products before either finding something that they loved enough to keep, or else defeatedly return to their traditional brand.

Thankfully natural deodorants, like all natural beauty products, have come a long way in the past few years in terms of quality and effectiveness, and there are several brands offering toxin-free deodorants that easily equal or surpass the performance of their aluminium-based counterparts.

Switching up your deodorant to a natural alternative will reduce the amount of synthetic and potentially disruptive ingredients (such as propylene glycol, aluminium, triclosan, silica and aluminium) being absorbed by the thin and porous skin under your arms. While more research is need to prove links between deodorants and breast cancer, it has been noted that parabens from deodorants and antiperspirants have been found in breast cancer tumours, so it's not really a risk we believe to be worth taking. Especially when there are plenty of clean alternatives that work just as well, and you will probably even prefer using once you have got your head around the concept.

Here at The Clean Beauty Edit, we love a good cream deodorant and Evolve Beauty's organic and vegan Cotton Fresh Deodorant Cream smells heavenly and provides the best odour and wetness protection of any of the creams we have tried. It can need a little warming up between your fingers, or with a hairdryer, in cooler weather, to make it easier to apply but it is worth the extra effort for the divine scent and (we feel) flawless protection offered.

Ben and Anna's range of Natural Soda Deodorants are also impressive and come in a variety of 6 delicious scents that are suitable for both men and women. Coming in a more traditional stick form, they have a solid consistency thanks to Shea Butter and Soda. They never feel greasy or sticky, protect against moisture and odor and have no aluminium, PEG's, Parabens or Phtalates. They are also vegan, gluten-free and cruelty-free.

If you have been putting natural deodorant on the backburner, or have yet to find one that suits you, try our selection on The Clean Beauty Edit and prepare to ditch your supermarket staple in favour of a cleaner product that will give you peace of mind while keeping even sensitive pits smelling fresh!
