5Qs with The Organic Pharmacy's Margo Marrone

The Organic Pharmacy is one of my all-time favourite skincare brands and I always have a number of their products on rotation in my bathroom, I am quite passionately devoted to their Detox Body Oil and Body Brush every morning and love to start my Saturdays with their Enzyme Peel Mask to refresh and rejuvenate my skin. Lately, I have added their new Radiant Day Shield after my skincare and have been loving how soft and glowy it leaves my skin! They are a brand that I admire so much for their dedication to all things organic and homeopathic.

The Organic Pharmacy was co-founded by pharmacist and pioneering herbalist Margo Marrone who opened her first store in London back in 2002, specialising in all things organic and healthy, encouraging customers to think about the ingredients they were consuming and using on their skin while promoting the benefits of homeopathy and herbal remedies. The Organic Pharmacy became a one-stop destination for health and skincare needs and the brand has grown from strength to strength over the years, and a firm favourite among beauty editors, make up artists and clean-loving celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Kerr, Emma Watson and Kylie Minogue.

All their products are formulated and manufactured in London and made in small batches to ensure strict quality control. The result is highly effective products that are beautifully packaged and feel luxurious and indulgent to use. The Organic Pharmacy can now be found in exclusive boutiques and award-winning spas around the World, as well as right here on The Clean Beauty Edit.

Recently I was lucky enough to interview Margo for our 5Qs series, about the evolution of The Organic Pharmacy over the years, homeopathy and the best advice she has ever been given.

What first sparked the idea for The Organic Pharmacy?

Goodness that was over 20 years ago!!! I was studying homeopathy and came across and article that talked about toxins in cosmetics. Back then no one cared what they used on their skin and I was shocked to find out that the skin is our biggest organ and we can absorb up to 60% of what’s put on it and in those days skin care was full of toxins, cancer causing ingredients, skin irritating synthetics. I really wanted to have a place that avoided all that and the idea of The Organic Pharmacy was born.

The Organic Pharmacy opened its first store in 2002 in London, how has the brand evolved over the past 18 years?

My ethos was always health first – if the body is fit and healthy and has the right nutrients the mind will be fit and healthy. So our first step was always the supplements and Detox which became our corner so. Then we entered the world of Spa’s and are now in 40 of the top spa’s all over the world and of course the range of skin care, make up and fragrance. Getting high quality performance driven organic formulas was always my passion and the evolution over the past 18 years is to see the clinically proven performance from our skin care but also to see health now become part of everyday life.

Can you tell us more about how homeopathy can enhance health and wellbeing?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine without side effects that is highly effective in helping heal the body, mind and emotions. I have used it for the past 25 years and still today it surprises me the results we get. From depression, anxiety, skin complaints, hormonal, digestion- the list is endless.

What does your daily self-care routine look like, and which products from The Organic Pharmacy’s skincare range do you love to use on a regular basis?

I start my morning with Enzyme Peel Mask- every morning as I am now at that delicate age where more help is needed. It gives my skin a fresh dewy youthful canvas to play with. I then follow with our Hyaluronic Acid Serum (a girl needs all the plumping she can get) and then I apply Antioxidant Serum and Gel and finish with Radiant Day Shield to protect my skin from pollution. For makeup I’m very minimal so I use the Hydrating Bronzer and our highlighter, our mascara and I finish with the hyaluronic acid lip pencil (it plumps and volumizes my lips beautifully) and a slick of Volumising Lip balm in Coral.  I love the fact that the make up is all natural and sustainable that was very important to me.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

The best piece of advice I have been given is to always follow my intuition. The times I’ve made mistakes is when I went against that. So now I take a pause- connect to myself and really feel what my gut says.
